Anthony S Casey was thrilled to host EPL legends Teddy Sheringham, Steve McManaman, Darren Anderton and David James over the weekend in Singapore when they played a friendly game against Germany.
This November, The Battle of Europe 2016 produced the same final score from the famous World Cup final of 1966 as England Masters recorded a 4-2 triumph over Germany Masters at Singapore National Stadium.
Cult hero Sheringham out of Manchester United performed with further strikes by Darren Anderton and Emile Heskey. The English managed to keep the attack alive with Sheringham floating a dangerous ball back into the box to pick out Anderton, whose firm header deflected past Perry Brautigam.
McManaman is the most decorated English footballer to have played for a club abroad. The UEFA website reports that “of all England’s footballing exports in the modern era none was as successful as McManaman.”
Anderton is a powerful midfielder who spent most of his career with Tottenham Hotspurs.
Just when it looked as though an equaliser might be on the cards, England doubled their lead in the 28th minute. During the game, Anderton passed to Heskey and played a clever backheel into the path of Sheringham, who made no mistake in rifling his shot into the back of the net.
James served as goalkeeper and player–manager at Kerala Blasters FC in the Indian Super League. During the game, Germany put Bayern Munich forward Alexander Zickler in control but was denied one-on-one by David James.
In the end, it was a great victory for the English. The last goal was credited to Heskey, even though replays suggested the crucial touch came from Nowotny. The victory for the English was a thrilling time here in Singapore and Anthony S Casey was happy to spend time with these talented footballers!
